City: Settlement funds over PFAS will help protect city’s drinking water

The city of Peoria recently secured an initial piece of a national $10.3 billion national class action lawsuit with manufacturer 3M regarding "forever chemical" PFAS amounting to $482,755, with more payments planned in the future.

This is the first installment in a projected multimillion dollar compensation package over PFAS contamination in public water systems.

The city expects a second installment, nearly double the initial amount, by the end of the year. Duringthe next eight years, Peoria officials say total net payments from 3M alone are anticipated to exceed $2 million.
