Marjorie Nilson Sloan was one of a kind.

She was generous, good-humored and bright. She was her family members’ biggest cheerleader, and her city’s biggest advocate when she served as mayor, helping shape Golden into the city it is today, her loved ones described.

On Aug. 2, more than 200 of Marjorie’s family members, friends, colleagues and fellow Goldenites gathered at the Golden Community Center to publicly celebrate her life.

While she was a self-described “worker-bee” for many organizations, Marjorie most prominently served as Golden’s mayor from 2012-2020. She was active on several local boards and commissions before and after her time as mayor, including being elected to the RTD Board of Directors in November 2020.

Marjorie died July 15 at age 80.
