On Aug. 5, people across the United States simultaneously gathered in their neighborhoods or city parks to meet police officers, firefighters and other public safety workers in a relaxed environment.

But, as always, the annual Golden Night in the Park was a little bit special.

The event, also called National Night Out , always takes place on the first Tuesday of August. It’s an opportunity for residents, especially children, to learn about emergency services in a fun, neighborly environment.

For Golden, that’s Parfet Park.

While climbing inside emergency vehicles or watching a K-9 demonstration are always favorites among attendees, this year, the festivities included a dunk tank. Both children and adults enjoyed sending city officials into the water, including Police Chief Joe Harv
