Westminster’s old Midland Building likely headed for demolition

Westminster’s hulking and battered Midland Building may be headed for demolition to the relief of city officials and neighbors.

Long time business owner Dino Valente said last month the Midland Building – located at 7255 Irving Street – has been a “festering and cancerous” target of vandals and other illegal activities for years. He urged city councilors not to back off plans for the building’s abatement, which will likely lead to its destruction.

“Don’t back away, don’t be fooled” by promises from the building’s owners to fix it and turn it into a place to live, Valente told councilors.

Mayor Nancy McNally joined a unanimous city council Monday in voting to begin the abatement process for the abandoned building, which many have complained is lingering eyesore.
