MINDEN, La. -- Leaving a pet locked inside a vehicle without proper ventilation during extremely hot weather has put a Bossier City woman in hot water with the law.
Police Chief Jared McIver said Shardenai Jozette Shaw, 28, faces a charge of cruelty to animals after officers found her pet dog inside a vehicle Thursday at the Minden Recreation Center.
Officers found the woman's poodle after responding to an animal welfare concern. The dog was inside a vehicle in the recreational center’s parking lot with the windows only slightly cracked.
Officers said the dog was barking and panting heavily due to the extreme heat inside the vehicle. Temperature at the time was 95 degrees and the Minden area was under a heat advisory.
