MIAMI, Okla. — A former Joplin banker pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement, was given a deferred sentence and paid restitution during a hearing Tuesday in Ottawa County, Oklahoma, District Court. A second charge was dropped.

Aaron Allen Smith, 48, had served as treasurer for the Miracle League of Joplin, a group that makes it possible for disabled children and adults to play baseball in the summer. ×
