The University of Maryland School of Medicine conducted a review on the physical, psychological and social impacts of firearm injuries.
The purpose was to standardize long-term recovery pathways for shooting survivors.
"Physically, it can be life-altering," said Dr. Melike Harfouche, a surgeon and assistant professor at UMMS. "Mentally, even if it isn't physically life-altering, it can still be life-altering."
