BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) - Members of the Raleigh County Commission took steps to promote early literacy in local children at the commission's Regular Session meeting.
$35,000 of county opioid funds were approved to go toward the work of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Raleigh County. Commission President Greg Duckworth said this is part of the commission's plans to focus on education and prevention in the area. "We're excited to kick this program out," said Duckworth. "We've kind of took a position of prevention and early literacy and the things with the kids - the gamechangers in the schools and these books up to five years old."
