SOUTH CAROLINA (WSAV) - Congresswoman Nancy Mace's bid for governor could leave her seat open and WSAV sat down with the first democratic candidate to enter the race for South Carolina's First District.

The first candidate to throw his hat in the ring, Democrat Mac Deford.

A Charleston area lawyer with ties to Beaufort County, Deford made an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nomination in 2024. He missed out by just 700 votes to eventual nominee Michael Moore.

"While that was a loss, I'm not entirely disappointed in that outcome," Deford said. "We were outraised and outspent 2 to 1 compared to my opponent. We were able to do a lot with a little and the results spoke for themselves. As a first-time candidate knew you don't know what you don't know, and so I've been through it before. T
