SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- Spokane Valley might be on track to hire new police officers, based off early election results.

As of Tuesday evening, Spokane Valley's Public Safety Sales and Use Tax measure is passing with 59.29% of the vote.

If passed, the proposition would increase the city's sales and use tax by 0.1%.

The tax would fund hiring at least ten new police officers, maintaining law enforcement staffing and retention and providing other public safety services.

If approved, the additional 0.1% sales tax would generate about $2.6 million in 2026.

Votes will continue to be counted over the next few days and results will be certified August 19.
