ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- One local police department joined in on a country-wide movement to connect with their communities on Tuesday. The Ithaca Police Department opened its doors to ring in National Night Out with the public.
IPD officers spent hours outside their headquarters showcasing different aspects of their jobs to the public. People got to take a look at various demonstrations, and they even had the chance to talk to local officers one-on-one.
National Night Out is a movement that takes place on the first Tuesday of August every year across the country. The goal of the event is to strengthen the relationship between the community and its local law enforcement.
"This is a time now where we can have these conversations," said Chief Thomas Kelly of the Ithaca Police Department.
