EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — As students return to class across Vanderburgh County, local law enforcement is urging drivers to use extra caution around school zones, buses and crosswalks.
With increased traffic from school buses and parents dropping off students, the Evansville Police Department has ramped up patrols in school zones to ensure children’s safety.
“We just want to make sure that they get to school safely,” Sgt. Anthony Aussieker said.
Police are reminding drivers to plan ahead, leave early, slow down, and give extra space to buses and crosswalks — especially during pickup and drop-off times.
“To make sure if any kid darts out — because we know kids are excited — they’re back in school, they’re excited to see friends and meet new teachers, they’re going to be running around,”
