ELKADER, Iowa (KCRG) - A northeast Iowa school district Superintendent has resigned months after he made a controversial Facebook post sending the community into an uproar.

Nick Trenkamp posted on Facebook saying big pharma promotes childhood obesity and homosexuality.

School board members voted to accept Nick Trenkamp’s resignation and separation agreement.

The board previously voted to consider firing the superintendent, citing unprofessional conduct and ineffective leadership among other issues.

With the Superintendent resigning, School Board President Jared Funk said the district is working in the 11th hour to fill the position.
