New Castle County Council voted to give permission for staff to try to stretch out the pain of the recent property tax hikes many residents are facing.
Council once again heard from several frustrated residents about the effects of the recently-concluded 2024 property value reassessment, which has led to increased tax bills for many residents, while at the same time leading some businesses to see reduced tax bills.
County Councilman David Carter (District 6 - Middletown) defended Tyler Technology, whose assessment process calculated that residents saw a 477% rise in property values since 1983, while non-residential properties went up 233%.
