A few Fairbanks city councilmembers want more transparency on discussions about the future development of the Polaris Building by making the Polaris Working Group meetings publicly noticed.

Fairbanks Mayor David Pruhs, who initially proposed making the working group a city ad-hoc committee, said it has effectively stood down after 10 years.

Pruhs initiated the Polaris Working Group several years ago to secure funding for the demolition of the derelict 11-story high-rise and its eventual redevelopment into a project that would benefit downtown Fairbanks.

Now that the building is down, Pruhs told councilmembers on Tuesday that he was discussing ideas and an initial concept for private industry to develop the project, along with the city engineer and chief of staff, Council Members John Ri
