I love music. I’m partial to R&B, but I’ll listen to anything — from the Funkadelics (old school, baby!) to showtunes, Karen Carpenter to Ariana Grande. What you’ll find most on my playlist, though, are the soothing tones of bossa nova.
A little while back, I was pleasantly surprised at one of the Love Now Media events to hear music from a talented young musician conjuring up my beloved bossa nova — but with her own contemporary twist. Selina Carrera, aka Cvgebird (pronounced Cage Bird), comes from a musical family. A child of the diaspora by way of Puerto Rican, Cuban and Brazilian descent, she was influenced by her father, a DJ and Afro-Caribbean percussionist, and her mother, a Latin-Caribbean dancer.
She describes her style as acoustic, trap and soul with Caribbean undertones. In add
