ALBION, MI – A former Taco Bell employee, accused of spitting in a sheriff’s deputy’s food, opted to take a plea instead of facing a jury Tuesday.

Governor Cameron-Wayne Stovall pleaded no contest to one felony count of violating food law Tuesday, Aug. 5, moments before he was to be set for a jury trial, court records show.

A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is treated as one in court proceedings.

Stovall, 26, was accused of spitting in Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputy Maccah McGhee’s $2.59 potato bowl while he was working in an Albion Taco Bell in September of 2024.

McGhee filed a lawsuit against Stovall and Border Foods, a Minnesota company that owns and operates the restaurant at 1440 N. Eaton St. in Albion.

The lawsuit is still ongoing in Calhoun County Circuit C
