“This is the year to come,” said Liz, founder of Lezapalooza — a backyard bash that has evolved into the biggest outdoor festival for sapphics within driving distance to Philadelphia.

Liz, who moved from Missouri at 17 to live with her gay aunts in New Hope, Pennsylvania, eventually followed a girl to North Jersey. That’s where she acquired the five acres of land that hosted the first festival. Liz is back in Bucks County, but Lezapalooza stayed in North Jersey.

The event — which is held at a secret location disclosed two weeks before the event — is celebrating its fifth anniversary. It will take place Sept. 26-28 with early admission on Sept. 25 for folks who are especially excited to get the party started and day passes for those who can’t stay overnight.
