ROCK HILL, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A loud explosion and smoke may be heard and seen this afternoon in Rock Hill due to a controlled detonation, according to the York County Sheriff's Office.
Officials said it will be carried out by the Rock Hill Police Bomb Squad at the York County Landfill between 12 and 12:30 on Wednesday.
The controlled detonation is to get rid of old ordnance, which is commonly referred to as unused police or military weapons.
The sheriff's office said that although a loud explosion and smoke may be present, there is no danger to the public.
