GLENFIELD, N.Y. (WWTI) -- The Lewis County Humane Society announced on Facebook on Tuesday, Aug. 5, that they are closed to intakes.

According to the post, they received 26 calls on Aug. 5 from people wanting to surrender their dogs/cats. They continued to say that this is a “daily occurrence” and they are “bursting at the seams.”

They stated that they were sorry and couldn't please everyone. They also made a statement about some of the calls they are receiving: “One of the calls we got tonight was from someone threatening to take his dog out back and shoot it in the head if we didn't take it.”

Lewis County Humane Society said that they have no more space, and while they say it hurts to turn away animals, they must ensure that the animals they do have are receiving appropriate care. The
