FORT STEWART, Ga. (WSAV) — An active shooter has been confirmed at Fort Stewart, and an unknown number of victims are being taken to a local hospital, according to Maj. Charles Egan.
Egan said casualties had been confirmed, but it was unclear if that included injuries, death, or both. It was also unclear whether the victims are servicemembers.
Lt. Col Angel Tomko, Division PIO, said the incident occurred in the 2nd Brigade area located off of Highway 144, about 43 miles southwest of Savannah.
The brigade, which is not located in the main Fort Stewart area, was placed on lockdown shortly after 11 a.m. ET, as was the Wright Army Airfield, roughly five miles away, per the Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield (FSHAA) Commander.
