LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

The former Louisville Metro police officer convicted in the 2020 raid that killed Breonna Taylor is appealing his conviction and sentence.

Brett Hankison was found guilty last November of violating Taylor's civil rights when he blindly shot 10 times into her apartment during the botched raid.

His shots did not hit anyone.

A judge sentenced Hankison last month to 33 months and three years of supervised release after a lengthy four-hour hearing where Hankison apologized to Taylor's family.

Read more about the sentencing here.

The Department of Justice had recommended just one day in prison, with credit for time served.

No hearing has been scheduled to address Hankison's appeal.
