LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - For some in our WKYT viewing area, another school year has already started, or it’s just days away.

However, another school year can bring new rules, like a new law passed by the Kentucky legislature that goes into effect this fall, prohibiting cell phone use during class.

Supporters of the new law banning cell phone use in class say it’s designed to limit distractions.

Lachelle Parks is the mother of a Fayette County fifth grader. Her 10-year-old has had a cell phone since second grade. Parks says the law could come with unintended consequences.
