HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- Bald eagle populations have increased to a new high in Eastern Kentucky by 20%.

According to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR), avian biologists found 41 eagle nests during the 2025 spring survey, a 20% increase from the 2022 survey.

Avian biologists surveyed three regions in the state for active bald eagle nests, and those regions are eastern, central and western.

Eagle nest increases can be found in the other two regions of the state, with officials finding 130 nests in the 2024 Western survey and 75 in the 2024 Central survey.
