HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Last week, news broke that the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) would be ending operations due to a loss of federal funding. That decision has major implications for public media in Nebraska.

About 70 percent of CPB’s funding goes to stations across the country, including Nebraska Public Media (NPM), which now stands to lose roughly 16 percent of its operating budget. The funding was already awarded before the passage of a rescission bill backed by former President Donald Trump.

Nancy Finken, NPM’s chief content officer, said the station is now more reliant than ever on private donors, and she made it clear that one part of their programming will not be sacrificed.
