BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A couch that fell off a pickup truck led to a crash that injured three people Tuesday along Highway 178, the California Highway Patrol said.

The single-vehicle crash on Highway 178 was reported near Mount Vernon Avenue just after 4 p.m., officials said.

CHP said a pickup truck was hauling a couch and landed in lanes. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee swerved to avoid the couch and lost control overturning the vehicle.

The vehicle careened off the roadway down a small embankment. The vehicle came to rest near the fence of an apartment complex.

Three people inside a Jeep Cherokee were hurt. Officials said the passengers inside suffered minor injuries and were taken to Kern Medical for treatment.
