Wildfires in western Colorado are affecting the air surrounding Loveland, and local health officials are urging residents to take precautions.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment issued an air quality health advisory for the Front Range corridor, including Loveland and Fort Collins.
“If you can see or smell smoke, it is recommended that you avoid outdoor physical activities,” Tom Gonzales, Larimer County’s public health director said in a statement. “We are advising people to avoid outdoor exposure, especially for youth, seniors, pregnant people, and those with heart and lung conditions, until (air) conditions improve.”
Some areas of Larimer County have seen the Air Quality Index rise above 150, which Gonzales said is “considered unhealthy for all people.”
