Bangor police arrested a Penobscot County man early Wednesday morning after he allegedly punched a dog and then the dog’s owner when the owner tried to intervene.

Officers were called to Front Street shortly before 2 a.m. for a report of an assault, where they found Dirk Weber, 34, described as a Penobscot County transient, and the victim, who had visible marks of being assaulted, Bangor Sgt. Jason McAmbley said.

Weber was uncooperative when questioned by police and became disorderly when told he was going to be issued a summons for assault, McAmbley said.
