BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - For millions of Americans living with mobility issues, even simple tasks like making dinner can become a daily challenge.

But researchers at Virginia Tech are working on a solution, one that starts with a slice of pizza.

Making a pizza might seem simple, but for people with mobility issues, tasks like grabbing cheese or holding sauce bottles can be tough. That’s why Virginia Tech researchers are building robots that don’t just work, they adapt.

“Robots right now have very simple grippers, and that means they can only pick up a few things but for a variety of things and maybe food processing or manufacturing, we want to be able to pick up a lot of different things,” said Dylan Losey, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering with Virginia Tech.
