TROUTVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) - People across our hometowns know how many deer there are in Southwest Virginia. You likely even see them walking around your neighborhood. However, people in Botetourt County say the number of deer is becoming a safety problem.
“Within the past ten years, it has significantly gotten worse. People are changing the way that they drive. It’s kind of scary when you go out at night, it’s getting dark, the deer are out there, and you have to adjust your driving skills to be able to avoid them,” said Elsie Griffin, who lives in Troutville.
Every night, Elsie Griffin drives three miles from her home to take care of her mother. She said that at that time, she normally sees around 20 deer every night.
She said the large number of deer in Botetourt County is becoming a saf
