After weeks of concern about potential lost funds, Tiverton and Little Compton will end up receiving more than $133,000 in federal education funds, following the presidential administration’s recent reversal of a freeze of $6.8 billion in congressionally approved funds earmarked for school districts nationwide.
The funds, which were appropriated by Congress in March, were originally meant to be dispersed at the beginning of July. However, local officials learned of a federal freeze on these funds on June 30. Rhode Island could have lost up to $30 million.
