BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A 9-month-old former shelter dog named Loki is training to become a Human Remains Detection K-9 with the Bakersfield Search and Rescue team.

Loki is a German Shepherd-Malinois mix who spent several weeks at Kern County Animal Services.

He was taken in as a foster and now found a permanent home and is a promising addition to Search and Rescue.

Officials with Search and Rescue said Loki shows intelligence and drive and he has picked up obedience training quickly. The rescue team is also focused on maintaining his play drive.

Loki shows progress and enthusiasm, which has set him apart from his peers, they said.
