ATLANTA – An Army sergeant was arrested Wednesday after five soldiers were shot at Fort Stewart, an Army base in south Georgia.

Army Brig. Gen. John Lubas, the commander of the 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart, told reporters that all five victims were "in stable condition" and "expected to recover."

Lubas said Fort Stewart soldier Sgt. Quornelius Radford, a 28-year-old automated logistics noncommissioned officer, was apprehended at the scene. Radford was recently arrested for driving under the influence, Lubas said, but "that was unknown to his chain of command until the (shooting) occurred."

Radford remains in pretrial custody.

The shooting took place at Radford's workplace and involved his coworkers, Lubas said. The sergeant used a "personal handgun."
