Arizona Public Service Co. reported it served up a record 8,631 megawatts of electricity to its 1.4 million customers between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Aug. 7.

The state's two largest electric utilities marked new, back-to-back energy demand records this week amid soaring summer temperatures.

Arizona Public Service Co. reported it served up a record 8,631 megawatts of electricity to its 1.4 million customers between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Aug. 7.

The day prior, it provided 8,534 megawatts of energy, beating out its previous July 9 record by just a handful of megawatts. One megawatt of energy is enough for the utility to serve about 160 average homes simultaneously.
