The Boston Red Sox sent shock waves through Major League Baseball on Wednesday when ESPN’s Jeff Passan revealed on social media that the team is reportedly finalizing an eight-year $130 million contract extension with Roman Anthony that will keep the rookie slugger in Boston until the 2034 season.

That deal, which also reportedly includes escalators that could bring the total value of the contract to $230 million , will begin in 2026 and run through the 2034 season. The 21-year-old has certainly impressed since making his MLB debut on July 9 and is batting .283 with 45 hits, two home runs and 19 RBIs in 159 at-bats.
