ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Back to school season is here and many schools in our hometowns are gearing up for the new year.

Students in Roanoke County will be going back next week.

That’s where WDBJ7’s Kaira Willis got to ride along with one of their bus drivers to go over safety measures.

As the school year begins and buses get back out on the roads, there’s one thing all drivers want to make clear; if you see the red lights and stop signs, be prepared to pump the brakes.

“The only exception to the stop for the red-light rule is on a divided highway with a physical median, and you’re in the opposite travel direction as the bus that’s the only time other than that, if you see those red lights you need to stop,” said RCPS Community Relations Director, Chuck Lionberger.
