MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — As much as Ryan Garrett is using preseason camp to further evaluate wideouts, West Virginia’s receivers coach is also working to instill a certain mindset from players at that position.
“Something we emphasize on film all the time is we never want to give those corners a play off,” Garrett said. “Usually they have two guys that they want to keep out there playing corner, so we want to make them uncomfortable the entire game, whether we have the ball or not.”
Downfield blocking and maintaining a physical presence on the perimeter both often come into focus in head coach Rich Rodriguez’s offense. Garrett wants to ensure the WVU wideouts are mindful of that and play with a team-first approach .
