JACKSON, Wyo. — This week marks the 45th anniversary of the historic structure fire at the Wort Hotel.

On Aug. 5, 1980, a column of smoke rose from the hotel on Broadway Ave. According to The Wort Hotel’s registration form for the National Register of Historic Places, the fire destroyed the roof and damaged much of the second floor.

A 2015 article by the Jackson Hole News & Guide stated that 10 firefighters and visitors were hospitalized for burns, cuts and smoke inhalation. One firefighter, 55-year-old Cecil Lyn
