BRIDGEWATER – The Mets franchise leader in home runs visited TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday.

The franchise leader for now, anyway.

Darryl Strawberry was on hand for the game between the Mets and Yankees Double-A affiliates and still holding the Mets high mark of 252 club homers, one ahead of Pete Alonso. Alonso went hitless in the Mets’ 4-1 loss to Cleveland at Citi Field earlier in the day.

“It means he’s worked hard and dedicated himself to believing in himself and has been able to stand up and play in New York under the pressure and the expectations,” Strawberry said about Alonso to reporters in the home dugout. “That’s very hard to do, and sometimes people don’t recognize that.
