Two women were arraigned Monday on charges of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal drowning of 12-year-old Giver Essien on a field trip in Great Barrington last summer, prosecutors said.
Linda J. Whitacre, 68, of Pittsfield, was released on personal recognizance, and Meghan Braley, 30, formerly of Pittsfield, was released on personal recognizance with the condition that she notify probation of any change of her address or phone number, according to Julia Sabourin, a spokesperson for Berkshire District Attorney Timothy J. Shugrue’s office.
Braley and Whitacre are also charged with two misdemeanors: reckless endangerment of a child and permitting serious bodily injury to a child, Sabourin said.
They each have pretrial hearings scheduled for Dec. 8. Braley’s presence h
