BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — For the first time, medical marijuana patients in North Dakota can legally purchase edibles.

The new rule took effect Aug. 1, following legislation passed during the 2025 session.

Qualified patients can now buy low-dose medical cannabis products in the form of gummies or lozenges. Each serving is limited to 5 milligrams of THC, and containers are capped at 50 milligrams total.

The edibles must follow strict safety rules. They have to be square-shaped, come in plain packaging, and be clearly marked as medication. State law bans any designs or branding that could appeal to children.
