BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) - Local leaders and organizations have taken steps to manage the litter issue in Raleigh County.
Members of the Raleigh County Commission have said roadside trash is a primary concern for residents in the area. The Raleigh County Solid Waste Authority has put boots on the ground to address the issue as part of its roadside cleanup program.
Director Travis Kiblinger said the Solid Waste Authority is averaging over 500 pounds per mile in their cleanup efforts. "Total in the last month: we did 32 miles, 843 bags, 45 tires, 87 bulky items, and 16,400 pounds - 8.2 tons," he said. "So, we're averaging about 507 pounds per mile." Raleigh County Commission President, Greg Duckworth told 59News that the commission members have been pushing for local beautification efforts. Spec
