SHREVEPORT, La. - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has announced $500 million in funding cuts to vaccine development projects, specifically targeting mRNA-based research.
The decision impacts 22 research initiatives, including work conducted by Moderna and various universities.
The Secretary of Health and Human Services stated that mRNA vaccine technology is “ineffective” and presents “more risks than benefits.”
David Dodd, resident of GeoVax, a clinical-stage vaccine developer, addressed the cuts saying, “There are certain universities that were being funded that have been impacted. There are companies that have been impacted. Moderna has been impacted.”
Dodd continued, “Some people within HHS leadership apparently feel that there are better platforms out there — platf
