OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Every day, officers respond to calls that often put their own lives in danger.
“Our uniform patrol officers could see several traumatic and critical events in one shift,” Omaha Police Sgt. Mandee Kampbell, said.
Kampbell said these events can cause mental distress for first responders.
“There’s such a stigma around having trauma or anything to do with mental health that as the helpers and problem solvers, we don’t want to admit that we’re struggling,” Kampbell said.
Kampbell is working to reduce that stigma. She works with Omaha police to provide mental health support services to its officers.
The program started a few years ago and partners with therapists from the ‘First Responders Foundation’.
