EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) -Since late February, the Riverside sinkhole has been a thorn in the sides of many Evansville residents.
In that time, the project has only gotten larger and larger, and in April, it was announced they would be repairing the sewer underneath the road.
Then after weeks of rain and flooding, the sewer collapsed, and crews were faced with replacing the whole thing.
In that entire time, residents have has to use 2nd street as a detour.
But now, a major milestone has been reached.
Crews have completely drained the sewer and the river is at a non-threatening level.
The installation of 90 pairs of sheet piling has begun, meaning that soon crews will finally be able to replace the sewer line.
