EVANSVILLE, Ind. — City officials have provided updates on a construction project along the city’s east side.
The construction on Boeke Road involves reorienting the roadway from four lanes to three lanes.
The project began a few weeks ago with the installation of raised islands and has now expanded to milling the surface.
Left turn lanes are being installed in the middle for both directions, which engineers say will reduce accidents.
"Cars turning left will only have one lane to look at when they make their decision to turn left down a side street," explained Evansville City Engineer Mike Labitzke.
Raised islands will also prevent drivers from using the left turn lanes as passing lanes.
The city says the goal is to make Boeke Road, which averages roughly 9,000 drivers a day, safer f
