CEDAR BLUFF, VA (WVNS) - National Breastfeeding Awareness Month is a big deal around Clinch Valley Medical Center.
For these healthcare professionals, they are with mother and baby every step of the way. When a baby is born, a large number of mothers attempt breastfeeding, according to OBGYN Ricky Pierre.
He explains some of the many health benefits for not only the infants, but mothers as well.
“Several health benefits to both mom and baby. They range from preventing chronic disease to also helping acute illness. I think probably one of the biggest for moms is mental health," said Dr. Pierre.
Breastmilk is sometimes referred to as ‘Liquid gold’ for its many health benefits outside of nutritional aspects.
It has natural antibacterial properties according to the National Institute of H
