BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — The school year is right around the corner — so close you can almost smell it. Speaking of smelling, some changes are coming to the cafeterias in schools across the state to help promote healthier eating habits for students this school year.

Schools have been implementing healthier choices for their students' meals since 1994 with The Healthy Meals for Healthy Americans Act, and these choices have evolved over time. Now, another change is coming this year.

Lynelle Johnson, the Director of Child Nutrition & Food Distribution with the ND Department of Public Instruction, shared a lot of insight with what those changes are going to look like.
