The annual National Night Out, an event designed to build stronger relationships both between police and their community and among neighbors, got rained out in many Rowan County communities on Tuesday, but two, Salisbury and Kannapolis, moved the event indoors and carried on.

In Kannapolis, the event was moved to the Swanee Theater and was to run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. But Sgt. Dale Burris of the community relations division, who oversees all school resource officers, said by 5:20 p.m. there was already a crowd so they opened the doors.
