Well-known boxer “Bobby León” found shot to death

The man found dead inside a home Monday afternoon in the Hidalgo neighborhood has been identified as Roberto Manríquez León, a well-known local boxer better known as “Bobby León.”

According to the Baja California State Attorney General’s Office, León, approximately 30 years old, was found with gunshot wounds inside the apartment he rented near 61st Avenue and Libertadores Street. Authorities responded to a 911 call made at 4:56 p.m. on August 4 by the property owner, who said they could not open the door because the tenant’s body was blocking it.

Mexicali police officers secured the scene and confirmed León had been shot. Spent shell casings were found inside the residence.
